Jury in Vandergriff trial visits collision site

WINFIELD, W.Va. — The jury in the Morgan Vandergriff trial visited the site of the crash where the Scott Depot man is accused of fatally striking another person with his vehicle.

Vandergriff, 39, allegedly hit John Maynard on Ranch Lake Boulevard in May 2018. Maynard was reportedly standing on the edge of a driveway at the time of the incident.

Other witnesses took the stand as well, including Deputy Tyson Edwards of the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office; he said Maynard was laying in a ditch while people surrounding him were yelling to find Vandergriff.

Edwards added Vandergriff was lethargic and slurring his words while explaining the incident.

The trial will resume Friday morning at 8:30.
