MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The Morgantown Police Department reported a reduction in reported crime during the first days of classes at West Virginia University.

While the police department notes the figures are preliminary, the numbers of calls for service declined 14.5% from 2018 to this year. There were 2,329 calls for service between Aug. 15 and Aug. 25.

The number of traffic crash reports fell from 28 to 21 between the two years, and the number of total criminal citations decreased from 179 citations to 150 citations.

Twenty-six people were arrested on an array of criminal offenses.

The police department noted not all citations have been processed and several warrants still need to be served.
