HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — A Michigan man is facing charges stemming from a 2018 fatal hit-and-run incident in Huntington.

Huntington Police announced that Jermaine D. Baird of Detroit was taken into custody Thursday by members of the Huntington Violent Crime and Drug Task Force for the August 2018 death of Carol Brooks.

Brooks was struck and killed by a silver Chevy Malibu while walking in the 1100 block of 9th Avenue on August 5 of last year. A release that said the suspect fled the scene and the vehicle was later recovered in Detroit.

Baird is charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death. He also had outstanding warrants for being a fugitive from justice in Ohio and being in possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.
