Federal judge orders Justice companies to pay $35 million

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A federal judge has ordered companies of Gov. Jim Justice to pay $35 million over a 2012 lawsuit.

Judge Gregory Van Tatenhove, of the Eastern District of Kentucky, issued the order on Monday.

New London Market Inc. filed a lawsuit against James C. Justice Companies and Kentucky Fuel Corp. over a contract breach. The companies are accused of failing to pay minimum royalty payments, monthly retainer fees and committing fraud.

Justice companies were later accused of transferring assets to defraud investors.
