MARTINS FERRY, Oh. — A second Alecto hospital serving West Virginia’s Northern Panhandle has closed.
The Wheeling Intelligencer reported operations were suspended at East Ohio Regional Hospital, located in Martins Ferry, Oh., on Friday night despite attempts to possibly sell the property.
Employees joined community members for a vigil outside to mark the hospital’s closure.
Any patients still being treated at the facility were due to be transferred to other sites by Monday.
The EORH closure followed the abrupt shutdown of Wheeling’s Ohio Valley Medical Center, another Alecto hospital, earlier this month.
Originally, projected closure dates for the hospitals were set for around Oct. 7.
