Roane County returns to gridiron and honors Alex Miller

SPENCER, W.Va. — For the first time since the death of a senior player, the Roane County High School Raiders returned to the football field for a game Friday night against Braxton County.

Alex Miller, 17, a wide receiver, died after collapsing on the sideline of the September 13th road game against Clay County.

Miller’s death prompted an outpouring of support from across West Virginia. His funeral service was held last Saturday at Roane County High School.

Roane County won Friday night’s game against Braxton County, 44-14.

Tributes to Miller were part of the game.
