High temp records fall across West Virginia as October rolls in

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Several record high temperatures for Oct. 1 fell in West Virginia Tuesday with the possibility of additional records being broken Wednesday and Thursday.

As of 5 p.m. Tuesday, the National Weather Service said record highs were set in Huntington, Parkersburg, Beckley and Elkins. Record highs were tied in Charleston and Clarksburg.

Tuesday’s highs and previous records:

Huntington 95, previous record 90 in 1952

Parkersburg 93, previous record 91 in 1927

Beckley 89, previous record 85 in 1941

Elkins 89, previous record 86 in 1927

Charleston 92, tied the previous record of 92 set in 1919

Clarksburg 94, tied previous record of 94 set in 1953
