Escapee’s flight short lived in Wood County

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. — A work release inmate in Wood County is back in custody after he walked away from a Parkersburg facility Friday night and never returned.

Division of Corrections officials say Spencer Robert Risden, 34, checked himself out of the Parkersburg Detention Center Friday evening to go to the hospital. According to the agency he was discharged from the hospital around 11 p.m. but never returned.

He was arrested south of Parkersburg by corrections officials around 7 a.m. Saturday and faces additional charges.

He was incarcerated for drug charges as well as grand larceny.
