CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The West Virginia Board of Education will begin its statewide listening tour this week, which will consist of six events during the month of October.
The tour, starting Monday at Mingo Central High School in Delbarton, will provide the public the opportunity to speak about the processes of the board and issues facing education.
Carla Warren, the special assistant to the state’s superintendent, said internal and external stakeholders will facilitate the discussions.
“Topics to be included will be flexibility around curriculum, credits and standards; teacher preparation, recruitment and retention; family engagement and local school improvement councils; and career readiness,” she told the state Department of Education last month.
“The West Virginia Board of Education is seeking to engage in open dialogue with the public about issues that impact our students,” Warren added.
The board will host two stops in each of the state’s congressional districts:
— Oct. 7; Mingo Central High School in Delbarton.
— Oct. 9; Monongalia Technical Education Center in Morgantown.
— Oct. 23; Greenbrier West High School in Charmco.
— Oct. 24; James Rumsey Technical Institute in Martinsburg.
— Oct. 29; Putnam Career and Technical Center in Eleanor.
— Oct. 30; John Marshall High School in Glen Dale.
Each meeting is scheduled from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
A report on the meetings will be published by Dec. 1.
