West Virginia Wesleyan College receives single largest donation in school history

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. — West Virginia Wesleyan College received the single largest donation in the institution’s history on Friday.

The gift is more than $11 million from the estate of Thomas H. Albinson, a ’76 graduate, and will be directed to endowments for the Thomas H. Albinson School of Business, the media studies program, and campus radio station.

Albinson served on the Board of Trustees at Wesleyan in 2015 and served until his death in March 2016, according to the university. He earned a bachelor of arts in economics from Wesleyan while holding a leadership role with WVWC-FM, the College’s public broadcasting radio station.

“We are humbled by the generosity of Mr. Albinson,” stated Dr. Joel Thierstein, president of Wesleyan said in a statement. “He leaves an incredible legacy at Wesleyan.”

The Albinson family also donated $2.1 million from the Mary B. Albinson Trust in 2014. The university said that donation funded several campus capital projects and led to the naming of the Thomas H. Albinson School of Business.
