Manchin, Capito respond to Perry resignation

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Both West Virginia U.S. Senators thanked U.S. Energy Secretary Rick Perry for his service Friday after learning of his pending resignation from the Trump administration.

U.S. Secretary Rick Perry and U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin during a tour of Longview Power Plant near Morgantown in July.

“Secretary Perry has been a true partner during his time at the Department of Energy and since I became Ranking Member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee,” U.S. Senator Joe Manchin said. “I appreciate his service to our nation both as Secretary of Energy and the Governor of Texas. Since our days as Governors we have remained good friends and I wish him and Anita well in their next adventure.”

Manchin said he would meet with President Trump’s nominee for Perry’s replacement and hopes to talk about issues concerning carbon capture, utilization and sequestration, energy efficiency, battery storage and the proposed Appalachian storage hub.

U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito said Perry has been key in addressing some of the state’s top priorities. She also thanked him for his support of the storage hub.
