2 Cabell County deputies shot, suspect killed

ONA, W.Va. — Two members of the Cabell County Sheriff’s Officer were shot and a suspect killed in an incident Wednesday evening in Ona.

Deputy Jared Cremeans and Deputy Jimmy Johnston were executing a search warrant at a home on Blue Sulphur Drive; Cremeans was shot in the hand, shoulder and another location, and Johnston was shot twice in his bulletproof vest.

Deputies shot and killed the suspect Michael Pinkerman at the scene.

According to Cabell County Sheriff Chuck Zerkle, Pinkerman was the suspect in a stolen property case.

The suspect’s father was also shot; he is expected to face charges.

Zerkle said Johnston was treated and released while Cremeans is expected to undergo surgery Thursday.

U.S. Attorney Mike Stuart tweeted late Wednesday night that he was reviewing the facts of the case to see if any federal crimes were committed. Stuart said he had spoken with Cabell County Prosecutor Corky Hammers.
