Dome okay after wind storm

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The state Department of Administration says state capitol dome, which is under restoration, sustained no damage from Thursday’s wind storm despite the wind ripping the protective covering in two areas.

A small hole on the northwest side of the covering was repaired by noon Friday while a larger torn section on the dome’s south side side was expected to be repaired by the end of the day Friday.

“Fortunately, the protective covering did its job; there was no damage to the dome and work inside continues as normal,” Department of Administration Communications Director Samantha Knapp said.

The $14.5 million dome restoration project is supposed to be completed by early 2021.
