Bethany College athletes involved in head-on collision with drunk driver

BETHANY, W.Va. — Four women’s basketball players at Bethany College escaped without serious injuries after the car they were traveling in was hit head-on by a drunk driver, according to the school.

The accident occurred on Friday evening around 5 p.m. on Route 67 near the school.

The Bethany College Women’s Basketball team tweeted on Saturday saying, “We would like to say THANK YOU to everyone who has reached out asking about the four young women on our team who were hit head on by a drunk driver yesterday! GOD is good and was watching over them yesterday as they escaped without serious injury! Hug and love those close to you!”

The Brooke County Sheriff’s Office responded to the accident.

WTOV-9 TV reported that the other vehicle involved was a commercial contracting van. Brooke County Sheriff Larry Palmer told the station that police found a 30 pack of beer in the vehicle driven by Victor Estes, following his attempt to leave the scene.

Estes, from H.E. Neumann company, was charged with aggravated DUI.
