MUB agrees to proceed on Mississippi Street project

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The Morgantown Utility Board’s Board of Directors voted unanimously on Monday to move forward with its current agreement on the Mississippi Street project.

The agreement excludes three requests from the city: $1 million compensation for trees, the utility board paying for building water amenities and eliminating language to allow the city to order the pipeline removal for any reason.

“They had their objectives and we had our objectives, I guess,” board chairman J.T. Straface said. “At the end of the day, we came to an agreement that we both thought was the right thing.”

Utility board general manager Tim Ball said the board will pay for a bridge and trails, as well as annual payments for maintenance.

The utility board will pay the Morgantown Board of Parks and Recreation $3,000 a year in connection with the agreement.
