WHEELING, W.Va. — Ohio County Schools’ annual budget got a boost on Saturday.
Voters in the district renewed an excess levy at the polls that is nearly one-third of the school system’s annual budget.
The unofficial final tally on ballots showed just over 1,900 voters approving, 67-percent of the vote, compared for more than 950 people voting against it. Only 2,898 ballots were cast on Saturday, which makes up 9.8 percent of registered voters in the county.
Canvassing of the special election votes is set for Friday morning.
The levy, that is now extended through June 2025, is estimated to generate just over $19 million annually for the school district over each of the next five years.
Ohio County Schools has a current annual budget of around $67 million.
