CHARLESTON, W.Va — State lawmakers are getting closer to their next 60-day regular session and issues set to be discussed beginning in January will get some attention in interim committee meetings set for Monday and Tuesday at the state capitol.
There are nearly 30 separate meetings scheduled over the two days including a Monday morning meeting of the Joint Committee on Finance that will be discussing possible state budget cuts with top officials from the Justice administration.
The legislature’s Joint Committee on the Judiciary has a meeting scheduled Monday to focus on prison overcrowding.
The Select Committee on Infrastructure will get a district-by-district update on road maintenance projects from the state Division of Highways Tuesday while the Joint Legislative Committee on Flooding will host the last meeting of the two-day session. The committee is set to meet beginning at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
Sandwiched in between all of those meetings will be a special session that will including three bills sent to the legislature to consider from Gov. Jim Justice and a number of nominations from the governor for the Senate Confirmations Committee to consider. The special session begins at noon Monday.
