Businessman has plans for Lakeview Golf Resort

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — A Washington, D.C. businessman has purchased the Lakeview Golf Resort.

Sameer Ailawadi will close on the transaction on Dec. 12. The property was auctioned in September for $2.25 million. Ailawadi plans to make an equal investment.

Ailawadi operates eight other properties located in Pennsylvania and Maryland. He said changes are in store for the golf course, including repairs to the roof of the fitness center and a renovation.

“The guest rooms, the ballrooms, the carpeting and the bedding. We plan to change those things,” Ailawadi said. “The golf courses have a good reputation and are fairly well-maintained, but if needed we’ll make the investment.”

The name will stay for the foreseeable future.

“That’s a name that is a legacy. It’s been around for more than 50 years,” Ailawadi said. “What we are considering is soft-branding it. We don’t know whether that happens or not, but we are exploring a few different options where the name Lakeview stays and the property is associated with a national brand.”

Aliawadi said the resort will be opened all year, and he plans to keep employees that reapply for jobs.
