Equipment damaged during fire at Brooke County plant

FOLLANSBEE, W.Va. — No one was injured in a fire Saturday morning at the Mountain State Carbon plant in Follansbee.

Heavy smoke was showing from the large plant when fire crews arrived on the scene at about 9 a.m.

Brooke County 911 dispatchers called the fire an active emergency situation.

According to authorities, the fire damaged equipment including the conveyor belt used for transporting coal.

Fire crews from around the area responded to the scene including crews from surrounding areas. The Follansbee Volunteer Fire Department is the lead agency on the scene.

A cause of the blaze has yet to be determined.
