HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Marshall University and Mountwest Community and Technical College have reached a deal to offer degrees to become aviation maintenance technicians.
The deal, announced Friday, was finalized Thursday by institution leaders. Marshall University, Mountwest Community andTechnical College and the Robert C. Byrd Institute have been working with the Federal Aviation Administration on an airframe and powerplant maintenance program, which will allow students to earn a joint degree and FAA certification.
“The creation of this associate degree, between a four-year institution and a two-year institution, will serve as a model for collaboration across the country,” Gilbert said.
Keith Conroneo, president of Mountwest Community and Technical College, said this program will be a tool for future economic development.
“We anticipate that our joint effort to establish an aviation maintenance degree program at the Huntington Tri-State Airport will provide a substantial economic boost to the region,” he said.
The West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission has approved the concept of the degree program.
