Virginia man arrested following four-county vehicle pursuit

BURNING SPRINGS, W.Va. — A Charlottesville, Virginia man is in custody following a four-county high-speed pursuit Tuesday morning that started in Kanawha County.

The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Department (KCSD) said Deputy J. Querry attempted to pull a gray Honda Civic over around 1:30 a.m. on US Route 60 near Burning Springs for driving erratically. Joshua Allen Harris, 28, the driver of the Civic, pulled over and then fled.

The KCSD said the vehicle fled west on Route 60 into Charleston, onto I-77 north, then onto I-79 north, reaching speeds of 125 miles per hour. The pursuit went through Kanawha, Roane, Braxton, and Lewis counties before the vehicle in pursuit ran out of gas near Jane Lew.

Deputies with the KCSD discontinued near Glenville to avoid running out of fuel, where the driver continued to flee from West Virginia State Police Troopers who joined the pursuit.

A release said Harris faced charges by those who placed him under arrest. He also faces charges in Kanawha County for fleeing with reckless indifference and transferring and receiving a stolen vehicle.
