MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Monongalia County Delegate Danielle Walker will be among those honored by the Morgantown Human Rights Commission in a ceremony in city council chambers Tuesday night.

Human Rights Commission Chairman Jacob Powers said year the group recognizes an individual and an organization that promotes diversity and inclusion in the city.

“This year our committee nominated Delegate Danielle Walker and the Innocence Project at the WVU College of Law,” Powers said.

The selections put a spotlight on efforts and individuals that should be highlighted, Powers said.

“We respect and value the work that others are doing in our community,” said Powers. “We want people to know that these things matter and this type of work doesn’t always have monetary rewards, but it’s rewarding in itself.”

Powers said Walker is being recognized for advocating disability rights and inclusion for people in the LGBT community.

A reception will follow at the Aull Center after the city council presentation. The presentation event is set to start at 7 p.m.
