Mountaineer Recovery Center gets grant for unit serving pregnant women, women with children

KEARNEYSVILLE, W.Va. — Just four weeks after cutting the ribbon on their 48 bed inpatient recovery center, a Mountaineer Recovery Center official makes another announcement. Business Development Chief Kevin Knowles announced on Panhandle Live, heard on MetroNews affiliates WEPM and WCST, they have received a $3 million grant to build a two-story facility for pregnant women and women with children. The grant comes from the West Virginia Bureau for Behavioral Health and Health Facilities. Knowles said the new building will be added to their recently-opened facility at 3094 Charles Town Road. “If you’re looking at (the building), it’s to the left,” Knowles said. “We have some property that we can extent out there. Right now it’s our courtyard for our the residents. We’re going to be able to add that two-story facility onto that.” Knowles said since the November ribbon cutting, Mountaineer Recovery Center is at half occupancy with more residents coming soon. Services include outpatient treatment, a 28-30 day residential program, medication-assisted treatment, life skills training and peer recovery support services. Managed by Mountaineer Behavioral Health, Knowles said the entire team is excited to be one step closer to offering this one-of-a-kind facility. “In my previous role with Berkeley County Recovery Resources, one of the hardest things that we would have to do is to be able to place a woman that’s pregnant,” Knowles said. “There are a few, if any, facilities around that would take that individual. The second hardest was women that had children. Being able to bring your child and be part of that recovery process is huge.” Knowles added some additional funding will be needed to complete the project. Construction should be able to begin in about a year. For more information on Mountaineer Recovery Center, call 304-901-2070 or visit mountaineerrecovery.com.
