Junior college offensive lineman Stewart commits to West Virginia

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — West Virginia’s offensive line rebuild continued with a commitment from junior college offensive tackle Tairiq Stewart on Monday.

Stewart, a Rivals three-star prospect, picked West Virginia over offers from Maryland, Tennessee and Toledo. Listed at 6-foot-6 and 330 pounds, Stewart is a Cleveland native who spent the past two years playing for ASA College in Brooklyn.

“Junior college taught me a lot and created me into the man I am today,” Stewart wrote in his commitment announcement.

Stewart will come to West Virginia with a clear opportunity at immediate playing time. The Mountaineers are replacing both of this year’s starting tackles — right tackle Kelby Wickline and all-American left tackle Colton McKivitz.

West Virginia offensive line coach Matt Moore secured back-to-back commitments at his position. Jordan White, a guard from Maryland powerhouse DeMatha Catholic, committed to WVU on Sunday.

According to Rivals, Stewart graduates from ASA in May and would join the WVU program next summer.

Stewart is the fifth offensive lineman out of the 17 players committed to West Virginia. The early signing period begins on Wednesday.
