Hampshire County crash claims 2 lives

ROMNEY, W.Va. — A Monday crash in Hampshire County claimed two lives including that of a young child.

According to state police, Shawn Stotler, 24, of Capon Bridge, lost control of his car on U.S. Route 50 just east of Hampshire High School at around 8:30 a.m. Monday. The car went across the center line and struck an oncoming westbound vehicle being driven by Kasey Mowery, 29, of Augusta.

Troopers said the collision claimed the life of Stotler and a three-year-old passenger. They were pronounced dead at the scene. Neither were restrained, troopers said.

Mowery was injured and taken to a hospital in Winchester, Va.

An investigation is continuing.
