Chevy Chase in Charleston Monday to discuss ‘Christmas Vacation’

CHARLESTON, W.Va. —  Fans of National Lampoons Christmas Vacation will get a rare treat Monday night.

Chevy Chase will be in Charleston Monday night.

The movie will be screened at Clay Center in Charleston and afterward comedian and actor Chevy Chase, who played the leading character Clark Griswold in the movie, will be on hand for a question and answer forum.

“We are so excited to have the hottest holiday ticket in town,” said Morgan Robinson, vice president of ticket sales and marketing for the Clay Center. “This was the fastest sellout in Clay Center history and it just shows what an iconic place this movie holds in people’s hearts.”

Chase will appear in Charleston as part of a limited tour which celebrates the 30th anniversary of the film which has become a holiday classic for many.

“It’s really a holiday tradition, it reminds people of their childhood and all of the humor of holiday traditions and it’s perfect timing right before Christmas Eve,” Robinson added.

“He actually did a tour very similar over the summer with the movie Caddyshack. He enjoyed that so much, he decided since it’s the 30th anniversary of Christmas Vacation to come out and do another limited run,” she said.

The theater seats 875. Clay Center officials said about 400 tickets were sold in pre-sale and once they went on sale to the general public the rest sold out in less than 20 minutes.

Audience members will be allowed to submit questions about the film to Chase and as an added bonus he’ll be traveling with his family and his daughter will be on stage moderating the discussion and asking the questions.

“An Evening With Chevy Chase” will be proceeded by a pre-show Christmas party at the Clay Center with a visit from Santa Claus.
