BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — Police continue to search for the suspect in a carjacking at the Meadowbrook Mall on Friday.

The suspect ordered a 16-year-old girl out of the car in the parking lot of the JC Penney store. He then fled scene.

Bridgeport Police Department Sgt. C.B. Sayers said Monday the car was recovered Friday night and is still being processed by evidence technicians.

Sayers said they hope someone may have seen something that can help them find the suspect.

“White male, wearing jeans, a gray T-shirt, a backpack with green straps, a dark blue hooded sweatshirt draped over the backpack and appeared scruffy,” Sayers said.

Sayers emphasizes that this is not a trend, but urges people to take precautions.

“Don’t be afraid to lock your doors if you’re sitting by yourself in a car, it’s always a good practice to keep your doors locked,” Sayers said. “Be aware of your surroundings and don’t hesitate to call 911 if you see a suspicious person, maybe someone is looking into car windows, you can make that call if something doesn’t feel right and the officers will be in the area.”

The teenage girl was in the passenger seat waiting on her mother who was inside the mall.
