Former WVU offensive lineman Josh Sills transfers to Oklahoma State

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — If you can’t beat ’em, join ’em.

That philosophy fits former West Virginia offensive lineman Josh Sills, who made somewhat stunning New Year’s Eve announcement that he will be staying in the Big 12 and transferring to Oklahoma State. The Mountaineers were 0-3 against the Cowboys during his career at West Virginia.

Sills graduated from WVU earlier in December, and will be eligible to play for the Cowboys next season. He is seeking a Masters in Agriculture.

Based on his social media post, Sills was granted a medical redshirt after missing the last 10 games of 2019 after undergoing shoulder surgery. He’d be eligible to play in 2021, when Oklahoma State returns to Morgantown.

The 6-foot-6, 326-pound Sills started 24 of his 27 career games at West Virginia. He was a second team all-Big 12 selection as a sophomore, and a preseason all-Big 12 selection heading into this season.

By going to Oklahoma State, Sills is able to share a hairstyle with head coach Mike Gundy. But the move is likely more about Charlie Dickey, who is one of the most veteran offensive line coaches in college football.

Dickey is in his second season at Oklahoma State after spending the previous 10 with Bill Snyder at Kansas State. In that time, the Wildcats consistently churned out NFL-caliber linemen, combining for three All-American selections and 11 first team all-Big 12 selections. Dickey has been coaching at the FBS level every year since 1992.
