Brooke County sheriff reprimanded for using position on personal matter

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The West Virginia Ethics Commission on Thursday announced a public reprimand against a local sheriff after he admitted to using his position on a personal matter.

The commission approved the penalty against Brooke County Sheriff Larry Palmer.

Palmer previously admitted to violating the state Governmental Ethics Acts by using his position to have the county pay a personal damage claim.

Palmer will have to pay a $5,000 penalty and undergo training on the Ethics Act.
