Gilmer County collects ninth win in dominating fashion at Trinity

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — A fast start and an impressive defensive effort allowed Gilmer County to collect their ninth win of the season, 71-32 at Trinity. The Titans jumped out to a 22-4 lead at the end of the first quarter and they extended that cushion to 35-11 at halftime.

“Defensively we handled ourselves pretty well,’ said Gilmer County head coach Amy Chapman. “We got a few turnovers. We missed a few easy fast break opportunities but I think once we got into a little bit of an offensive rhythm, we started connecting and executing better.”

Trinity Bancroft led the Titans with 23 points and fellow sophomore Malaysia Morgan added 15.

Olivia Austin scored 12 of her 14 points after halftime and led the Warriors (4-6). Jaclyn Smith chipped in with 9 points.

The Titans improved to 9-1 on the regular season and they have won six consecutive games since falling to Class AA opponent Bridgeport in the opening round of the IOGA Tournament.

“We have great team chemistry,” Chapman said. “We play well together. They are not a selfish program. They are just looking for each challenge every game and getting ourselves better.”
