Election filing deadline approaching

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Candidates wishing to run for public office have until Saturday to submit their paperwork to the West Virginia Office of the Secretary of State.

Multiple candidates have already filed since the period began on Jan. 13, including Secretary of State Mac Warner and his Democratic opponent, former Secretary Natalie Tennant.

Certificate of Announcements can be filed at the Secretary of State’s Office in Charleston, the North Central West Virginia Business Hub Office in Clarksburg and the Eastern Panhandle Business Hub Office in Martinsburg.

“All three of those locations will be open until midnight on Saturday the 25th for those late filers,” Warner said.

Each location will be open Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m., as well as Saturday starting at 9 a.m.

Candidates can also submit their forms via mail; Warner noted all letters must be postmarked by Jan. 25 to be accepted.
