MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Seniors Telryn Villa and Teddy Marshall combined for 43 points as Martinsburg claimed a quality road win at Morgantown, 68-56 Monday afternoon.
Villa scored 24 while Marshall chipped in with 19 as the Bulldogs (8-2) won for the eighth time in nine games.
“I thought our kids really played hard,” said Martinsburg head coach Dave Rogers. “I thought their defensive switching, rotating and helping each other was the key to this game. We did a nice job getting in there on the glass. We are like everybody else. We are still making mistakes but when you hustle, that takes care of a lot of problems.”
Morgantown led 13-12 after the first quarter but the Bulldogs took a lead they would never relinquish with an 8-2 run in the second. The Bulldogs’ 27-21 halftime lead swelled to 49-35 at the end of the third quarter.
“Our dribble drives and dishing off was a key factor (in the third quarter). And we had some guys hit some big threes.”
Doryn Smith also scored in double figures for the Bulldogs. He had 14 points. Martinsburg won at Morgantown for the second consecutive season.
“It is tough to win over here,” Walker said. “When you consider two of the best teams in the state are right here in Morgantown, for us to come on the road and be able to grab this win is big for us.”
Morgantown (10-2) was led by Carson Poffenberger’s 14-point effort. Alec Poland added 10 points.
