HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — A Detroit man has been federally indicted following a shooting earlier this month at a Huntington bar.
U.S. Attorney Mike Stuart announced Wednesday that Kymonie Davis faces one count of being a felon in possession of ammunition.
Davis also faces seven local counts each of malicious wounding and wanton endangerment for the Jan. 1 shooting at the Kulture Hookah Bar. The seven victims of the shooting have been released from the hospital.
“He was put on the list as the number one in Detroit’s most wanted,” Stuart told MetroNews. “We’re working as hard as we can to identify where he’s at. We’re continuing to investigate the Kulture Hookah Bar matter, and there could be additional charges in the future. We take these matters very, very, very seriously.”
Stuart said his office is actively engaged in addressing drug activity connecting Detroit and West Virginia. He noted to MetroNews there has been progress across West Virginia regarding crime, noting a 28% decrease in violent crime in Huntington over the last year.
“Across the board, we’re doing great,” he said. “We have some great partnerships between federal, state and local officials. We’re all in this together to make sure we claim these streets for our citizens.”
Huntington Mayor Steve Williams earlier this month issued a temporary cease and desist order, closing the Kulture Hookah Bar. He also announced plans to make sure no new bars can open in Huntington soon.
