Huntington man in custody following Morgantown arrest

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — A Tuesday night noise complaint in Morgantown yielded a variety of illegal drugs, cash, paraphernalia and the arrest of a Huntington man.

Police chief Ed Preston said at 11:30 pm. police responded to the 400 block of McLane Ave and found several people inside the residence and a very strong odor of marijuana coming from the residence.

“They also encountered a very overwhelming smell of processed and unprocessed marijuana, it’s a different smell than burnt marijuana,” Preston said. “As a result of that they obtained a search warrant.”

Officers found more than 1,458 grams of processed THC wax, 356 grams of marijuana, cocaine, methamphetamine, ketamine and Xanax as well as more than $9,000.00 of cash.

As a result of the investigation, Alexander Niels Johnson, 20, of Huntington, has been charged with possession with intent to distribute controlled substances and is awaiting arraignment.

Preston says this was a win for the “Partner in Policing” program.

“He would someone who is a dealer with the ability to break up smaller packages to other lower level dealers,” Preston said. “We wouldn’t call him a trafficker with ties to a cartel or anything like that, but he would be a step above a street dealer.”
