Investigators seek help in Nicholas County arsons

SUMMERSVILLE, W.Va. — The state Fire Marshal’s Office is looking for help in connection with two arson fires in Nicholas County.

Investigators said in a Friday news release, two homes and a mobile home were destroyed in a July 9, 2019 fire at 125 Whipperwill Road in Summersville. The site is described as a recently developed, remote location not far from U.S. Route 19. Another structure on the site received less damage in the July fire.

A second arson fire, on Christmas Day, Dec. 25, 2019, destroyed a rebuilt home on the same property.

Total damage for both fires is more than $380,000.

Investigators said they are looking for two men who were in a truck on the property a few days before the July fire.

“The vehicle’s driver is described as a heavy-set older man about 60 years of age while a passenger was believed to have a slim build and no teeth. Investigators seek to identify and speak with these two individuals,” the Fire Marshal’s Office release said.

The two were in a dark-colored late model Chevrolet pickup with a black primer hood.

Anyone with information is asked to call the West Virginia Fire Marshal Hotline at 1-800-233-FIRE (3473).
