Goal met in Mon-Preston United Way campaign

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The Mon/Preston County United Way narrowly exceeded their 2020 Campaign goal of $1,345,000 by raising $1,348,479.

Bankers United, this year’s campaign chairs, unveiled the total on a large piggy bank to go with the theme of this year’s campaign – Invest In Your Community. The bankers are Dena Clutter of BB&T, Herman DeProspero of MVB Bank, Harry Hayes of Clear Mountain Bank, Jim Karinshak of United Bank, Chris Morris of First United Bank & Trust, Jill Pazerski of Huntington Bank, and George Petroplus of WesBanco.

“The community really stepped this year, as they do every year,” Morris said. “We have a lot of participating businesses and individuals that not only donate time but financial resources.”

The goal was not reached until the closing days of the campaign and Morris says every penny plays a vital role in our community.

“There are 24 agencies that are funded by the United Way of Mon and Preston Counties,” Morris said. “Throughout those 24 agencies there are more than 40 programs that are funded.”

The mission of the United Way is to improve and sustain community health, financial stability and raise educational attainment levels.

“The backpack feeding programs that are sponsored by Food for Preston in Preston County and Scott’s Run in Mon County. They send backpacks full of food home on the weekends,” Morris said.

Now that the campaign is complete Morris says the real satisfaction comes in watching the agencies full fill their missions.
