Oscar Tshiebwe, Miles McBride earn Big 12 postseason honors

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — West Virginia freshmen Oscar Tshiebwe and Miles McBride were both honored by Big 12 coaches for their performances this season.

The league announced its all-conference teams on Sunday.

Tshiebwe, a power forward from Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of the Congo, was named to the all-Big 12 second team as well as the all-freshman team. McBride, a point guard from Cincinnati, was also named to the all-freshman team.

Tshiebwe is leading the Mountaineers in both scoring and rebounding with an average of 11.2 points and 9.3 rebounds per game. His rebounding average ranks second in the league to Kansas center Udoka Azubuike, who was named Big 12 Player of the Year.

Tshiebwe was beaten out by Texas Tech guard Jahmi’us Ramsey as Big 12 freshman of the year.

McBride is averaging 9.5 points per game off the bench. Baylor senior Devonte Bandoo bested him in consideration for the Big 12’s Sixth Man of the Year.

WVU forward Derek Culver was an all-conference honorable mention.

The Mountaineers (21-10, 9-9) enter the Big 12 tournament as the No. 6 seed, where they will face No. 3 Oklahoma (19-12, 9-9) on Thursday at 9 p.m. at the Sprint Center in Kansas City.
