FAIRMONT, W.Va. — The Mon Health System has signed a letter of intent to build a small format hospital in the Fairmont area.
Mon Health Marion Neighborhood Hospital Inc. will oversee the formation of the small format hospital, which are facilities accredited by the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to offer inpatient and outpatient services, in addition to emergency procedures.
David Goldberg, Mon Health System’s president and CEO, said the proposal is a “perfect solution” following Alecto Healthcare Services’ decision to close Fairmont Regional Medical Center.
“Mon Health already owns property in the Fairmont community that is sufficient to support a small format hospital. We are looking forward to bringing the high quality, cost efficiency and caring environment that Mon Health is known for to the Fairmont region,” Goldberg said.
Alecto Healthcare Services, based out of California, announced in February the closure of Fairmont Regional Medical Center, affecting 600 employees.
“We have a long-standing relationship with Bob Adcock (the CEO of Fairmont Regional Medical Center) and the ownership and hoped to come to a better deal with them or with others,” Goldberg said. “It doesn’t look like that will happen.”
Goldberg added Mon Health has held discussions with Gov. Jim Justice regarding health care solutions in the Fairmont area.
The state must review and approve Mon Health System’s certificate of need to allow the planned hospital development to proceed.
