Recent Romney fire ruled accidental; man remains hospitalized

ROMNEY, W.Va. — Investigators with the state Fire Marshal’s Office have ruled a recent fire in Romney as accidental.

Romney Fire Chief Garrett Parsons said the blaze at a residence on School Street late last Saturday night was caused by a space heater being too close to combustibles. He said there were no working smoke detectors in the home.

A man caught in the fire is being treated for 2nd and 3rd degree burns at Johns Hopkins Burn Center in Baltimore.

The state Fire Marshal’s Office conducted the investigation.
