Employee at Sheetz in Ohio County tests positive for COVID-19

TRIADELPHIA, W.Va. — An employee at a Sheetz location in Ohio County has tested positive for COVID-19.

A Sheetz spokesperson said the company is aware of the individual testing positive which has resulted in the immediate closure of the busy 6 Cabela Drive location adjacent to Cabela’s at The Highlands.

Sheetz released the following statement: “Sheetz has been informed that an employee at our store location along Cabela Drive in Triadelphia has tested positive for COVID-19. Since the beginning of this crisis, we have been focused on the health and wellness of our customers and employees. Because of this positive test, this store location is closed immediately and will be professionally deep cleaned and disinfected. Our gas pumps will also be sanitized and cleaned.

“We are working with employees who may have had close contact with this employee. We are also following guidelines set by the West Virginia Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. All employees will be fully paid while this store remains closed. This location will not reopen until we have ensured that all steps have been taken to protect our community. Your safety is our top priority and that will continue to be our first thought as we join the nation in navigating this unprecedented health crisis.”

Of note, officials are currently working to locate individuals who may have come in contact with the employee. The Intelligencer in Wheeling reported the employee last worked there on March 23.

There are two Sheetz at The Highlands retail park. This is the one closest to Cabela’s.

Sheetz also stated that all employees at the Triadelphia location will be paid in full while the store is closed. Sheetz was one of the first companies to take action with employees on the coronavirus, giving all workers a $3 hourly raise.

On Tuesday, Sheetz announced a new “SHcan & Go!” feature allowing customers to scan and pay for convenience items through the Sheetz app. It was put into place because of the virus.

The latest numbers from the state Department of Health and Human Resources on Tuesday afternoon states that Ohio County has 19 confirmed cases of the virus.
