Updated story:
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The PGA Tour released their updated schedule for the remainder of 2020 Thursday, and A Military Tribute at the Greenbrier has been canceled.
The event, which was originally scheduled to be played annually through 2026, will not return to the PGA Tour calendar. The tournament cited the move to the fall as one of the reasons the event did not draw as many fans this past year. In the first eight editions of the event, it was scheduled in in the middle of the summer.
“We are happy to reach a resolution with the PGA TOUR that is mutually beneficial to both parties in this time of crisis,” said Dr. Jill Justice, President of The Greenbrier.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — In a massive reshuffle of the PGA Tour calendar caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, it appears the annual tour stop at The Greenbrier is being bumped off of its original date. It could be off the schedule entirely for this season.
Golf World and GolfDigest.com contributor Dave Shedloski reported Wednesday evening that the PGA Tour will announce the remainder of the schedule for 2020 on Thursday.
The Safeway Open in Napa, California has announced on their website that their tournament is being moved up a week to September 10-13, the spot previously held by A Military Tribute at the Greenbrier.
The PGA event at the Greenbrier has been a fixture on the tour calendar since it debuted in 2010. The tournament has shifted from July, August and September dates. The event was canceled in 2016 due to extensive flooding in White Sulphur Springs and across southern West Virginia.
Nine PGA Tour events have already been canceled or postponed due to the coronavirus. For the first time since 1945, The British Open will not be contested. The U.S. Open and The Masters have been rescheduled for September and November, respectively.
In 2019, A Military Tribute at The Greenbrier shifted to a September date and it was the opening event on the 2019-2020 ‘wraparound’ tour calendar. Joaquin Niemann of Chile pulled away from the field to win by six strokes at 21-under.
Stuart Appleby, Scott Stallings, Ted Potter Jr., Jonas Blixt, Angel Cabrera, Danny Lee, Xander Schauffele and Kevin Na have also won titles at The Greenbrier.
