Former WV Wesleyan & Salem hoop coach Michael Bari dies from COVID-19

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Veteran women’s college basketball head coach Michael Bari has died from complications due to COVID-19. He passed away Thursday, May 14 in Alexandria, La.

Bari led the WV Wesleyan Bobcats for two seasons from 2014-2016. He also coached at Salem University in the 2016-2017 season. Bari retired from coaching following the 2017 season.

Bari graduated from WV Wesleyan in 1984 and began a long coaching career in both baseball and women’s basketball. He coached at Penn-State Behrend, Alderson Broaddus, Gannon and LSU-Eunice. Bari’s longest coaching stint was at Eunice when he posted a 154-113 record in nine seasons. He also served as the athletic director at Colorado Northwestern CC.

Following retirement from coaching, Bari hosted the The Michael Bari Show podcast, and served as a play-by-play broadcaster on the Bayou Sports Network in his home state of Louisiana.
