CHARLESTON, W.Va. — State Lottery Director John Myers says he was glad to recently welcome a West Virginia couple to state Lottery headquarters after they won the June 3 $136.4 million Powerball jackpot.
“The gentleman and his wife have come forward,” Myers told Lottery Commission members Wednesday. “They’ve been here to the Lottery building and they’ve asked to remain anonymous so we won’t be having a press conference or anything on that.”
The winning ticket was sold at the GoMart in Hinton. Myers said the couple took the cash option.
“That’s about $108 million,” Myers said.
The state will also benefit from the winning ticket.
“The tax on that will amount to about $7 million and that will help with things being where they are right now,” Myers said.
Powerball officials said it was the only ticket sold which matched all of the numbers.
The winning numbers were 1, 3, 26, 41, 64 and the Powerball number was 17.
