DHHR updates COVID-19 cases numbers

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The state Department of Health and Human Resources added just 243 COVID-19 cases to the state’s totals Wednesday.

The newly confirmed cases is the lowest one-day total in at least the past week. Active cases are now at 8,067. They haven’t been under 8,000 since early November.

The state’s daily positivity test rate is at 3.02%.

The DHHR added 11 COVID-19 deaths in Wednesday’s report including an 89-year old female from Mercer County, a 95-year old female from Mercer County, an 80-year old male from Berkeley County, an 84-year old female from Grant County, a 76-year old male from Wood County, a 90-year old male from Kanawha County, a 78-year old male from Boone County, a 79-year old female from Mercer County, a 58-year old male from Mercer County, a 76-year old male from Marion County, and a 57-year old male from Logan County.

Total deaths are now at 2,285.

Hospitalizations dropped to 292 Wednesday. The state is nearing the 170,000 mark for residents who have been fully vaccinated.
