The postseason is looking very tough. Wont be surprised if Herbert Hoover pulls one out at Tolsia. They have a very verasatile big man in Morris

Where is GW? Oh, that's right, sitting at home.

    BAAWWWHAAAAAAAAAA

  • Michael kalar

Let's get those Catholic schools out of single A BB. I like many others would Welcome a true single A school to be state champs for once instead of schools who get recruit talent. Overdue for a change!

  • Jason

It is a real shame that WV kids are hampered by some of the senseless rules and regulations from the WVSSAC like not playing on multiple teams then they let Catholic schools play against schools that unlike themselves can't recruit. I agree with Mr. Kalar lets get everyone on the same playing field. WVSSAC should be helping our kids not holding them back.

  • Paul

@Kalar and Jason, do u want cheese with that whine? 11 out of 12 Chas Catholic Boys Bball players have been in the feeder grade schools since they were in first grade, we do recruit...when they are in first grade!

  • Michael Kalar

Hey Paul, it your kids were playing these same schools year in and year out at the State Championships I think you would see things like many others instead of your 'rose' colored glasses. Let's move the Catholoic Schools to AA and then let' hear that group complain. No on really cares much about the A except for those playing in it. Good example, go back and look at Tucker County HS. Coach Tom Gutshall is probably one of the most sucessful BB coaches in WV in the last 20 years and has made it to the finals numerous years with many of the losses coming to the Catholics Schools. I'm stating facts...numbers tell the story. Nuf Said!

  • John

Michael, I think Paul was trying to counter your point that the Catholic schools recruit, the kids on the Charleston team have been in the catholic school system since first grade, his point was I doubt the catholic school recruited first graders for basketball, it is funny how all the private school haters come out during basketball season but say nothing during the other sports that the public schools win, the catholic schools have only been dominate in the last decade, before that they barely made it to the tournament, what has happened? Consolidation has happened, all the dominate public schools became AA or AAA, "Good example, go back and look at Tucker County HS. Coach Tom Gutshall is probably one of the most sucessful BB coaches in WV in the last 20 years and has made it to the finals numerous years with many of the losses coming to the Catholics Schools. I'm stating facts...numbers tell the story. Nuf Said!" The facts are below, while I agree with you that Coach Gutshall is a good coach, Tucker Co only made the finals one year in 2004 and lost in OT after a very hard fought game, "No on really cares much about the A except for those playing in it." I agree the SSAC mainly cares about AAA,

    Facts from WVSSAC website

  • Bishop

Good post John. Notice how Michael and the haters suddenly disappear when confronted with facts and their imaginary ones are shredded? Their accusations are never supported by true facts. Kind of sad.

  • Michael Kalar

I figured that someone would do some research after I posted my recent comments and that it great. For I didn't mean to insinuate that TCHS was in the final four, but they had made it to the playoffs. So thanks fo the information. However, your data does prove my point beyond a shadow of the doubt, that in the past 13 years 12 State A Championships have been won by Catholic Schools. As far as recruiting goes, it goes without saying that if you had a successful Catholic School program within your community (Wheeling) and I could be my son/daughter to that school to play, I would do it. However, the other public schools don't have a choice. Maybe recruiting is the incorrect word!

  • Michael Kalar

Hey Bishop at least I'm not to timid to put my full name on the site. As I noted thanks for the stats for the proved my point. Ba'zing!!

  • John Snyder

Michael, while I proved your point I also proved my point that it has only been in the last decade that the private schools have been dominate, before that we barely made it to the tournament, I agree about our choice versus recruit but I can assure you that I don't take out a loan every year to send my kids to private school for the sports, the sports are just the extra benefit, my son as well as others have been going to the school since first grade, I think the bigger advantage is that these kids have played together for years, while some public school kids haven't, I know that the Tug Valley kids have played together and it shows, they trust each other on the court and not one kid has to do it all, my son played against them like in 10u AAU team and they were really good back then, if I were to send my son to a school for sports I would pick one of the AAA schools, because like youy said SSAC doesn't care about A and neither do the colleges, they recruit the AAA kids, we have had several kids that have left the private school for public school for sports so they get noticed, a lot go to GW and are very successful, more power to them, but like I said I make the choice for the academics not sports, and faith based education, good luck to all the teams, it takes a lot to get there
