In week three of the Warner Law Offices MetroNews Power Index for boys high school basketball in the state, there’s a little bit of shuffling at the top. Morgantown surged from No. 4 last week up to No. 2. The Mohigans had a very strong week, knocking off previously unbeaten Martinsburg 64-59, along with wins over Parkersburg South (11-3 and overall No. 7) and Parkersburg.
Despite losing to the Mohigans, Martinsburg retains its spot atop the rankings as the overall No. 1 team. The Bulldogs own a 16 point win over Morgantown from earlier in the season.
In at No. 3 overall is Greenbrier East (13-0), the lone unbeaten team in the state. The Spartans collected a win over Rockbridge, Va. from the past week. In at No. 4, South Charleston continues to roll at 12-1, picking up three wins within the week, knocking off Hurricane (No. 16) and Huntington (No. 13).
Hedgesville (11-2) drops two spots overall, down to No. 5 after falling to Washington 54-49. Washington (10-3) stays at No. 6 just behind Hedgesville, despite the win.
George Washington had a strong week, pulling up to No. 10. The Patriots (10-3) knocked off Hurricane, Princeton and Riverside.
The highest Class AA team ranked is Poca as the Dots come in at No. 12, dropping two spots from last week. Charleston Catholic continues to be the highest Class A team represented, coming in this week at No. 22.
