A belt fire between two coal tipples has been put out, Ohio County dispatchers say.
The fire broke out Tuesday just north of Wheeling, dispatchers said.
The tipples are located north of the Pike Island Dam on Route 2 in Ohio County. There are three tipples right next to each other, dispatchers said.
The blaze was reported at about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. A dispatcher said the fire was small and was put out quickly.
“We’re all clear,” the dispatcher said.
Officials with the state Mine Safety Office say smoke was reported at the Tunnel Ridge Preparation Plant. Inspectors were in route Tuesday afternoon, officials said.
The tipples have caught fire in the past, but new protective technology was put in place to prevent fire.
Several fire departments responded to the scene.
