Oh boy. That means that there isn't a QB on the roster that is good enough to separate himself from the other stiffs. Can you say 4-8 in 2013.

    • WILLIAM

WVU FANS NOW KNOW HOW GOOD IT WAS WHEN JOHN BEILEIN AND BILL STEWART WERE COACHES! TWO GREAT MEN THAT WERE VERY CLASSY, WITH GREAT CHARACTER! Look at the coaches now - they have taken WVU to an all time low!

    It's called reading comprehension.

    • Misterman

In your case it would be listening comprehension.

wow. nice opening shot to tell the world how our mental make up is..nice one t-bone...puhhhh, is there anyone out there with the mental makeup you need to succeed? i have faith we'll be just fine. we are a perrenial winning college football program. i dont know why we have all these mental midgets as fans. you and william should go rub poles somewhere.

    • chris

A "perrenial winning college football program"..
come on tony, were u in mountaineer stadium when Virginia Tech, BC and Miami was in the Big East. Once they left it was as if we were playing in the old Atlantic 10 days of basketball.

        @Chris,
Your post shows how smart you ARE.Since 2000 WVU Has won 3 BCS Bowls Games.Thats More than all 3 Schools you Brought up and The Enitre Atlantic Choke Conference/ ACC COMBINED.WHAT AN IDOT LOL

Just because the starting QB for 2013 hasn't been named yet means there is cause for concern. That's what spring drills, summer work, fall camp, etc. are for. Give it time.
Got a laugh from the reporter near the end asking if Geno Smith can be replaced. What a dumb question. I liked the answer.

Childress will be your starter. Why do true fans have to start with the "well we will be 4-8 next year" crap. Believe or jump ship. I'm sure negativity is what makes you succeed in life you go getter.

  • Shawn

None of the QB's on the roster have started a game yet. It shows ignorance when you start the comments out with that statement. A smart head coach thrives on position battles because competition brings out the best in these kids. You never settle for the one you think is the best or the one who is older. I'm looking forward to the Spring game to see who performs the best. And i'm definitely looking forward to the running back battle.

When you say that the QB situation won't be resolved until the final week of fall practice, that usually means you don't have a very good QB. Who does WVU have at QB?? They have a guy that had only ONE Div.I scholarship offer, WVU. They have a guy that has not played a down of college football and has been arrested for DUI. And they have an incoming freshman that is more of a runner than a passer, just what an air-raid offense needs. Nothing here to get excited about. The RB's?? Will that matter if the offensive line is like a sieve on 2 out of every 4 downs??
And the next to worst defense in college football returns in 2013. And 5 assistant coaches have abandoned Holgorsen and jumped ship in just 2 months. Lots to look forward to in 2013. The handwriting is on the wall: WVU and Kansas battle for the Big-12 cellar in 2013.

A smart person understands that when you have QB's who haven't really played then there will be a constant battle at that position until one has proven he is the best. And yes it could take until the final week. Why would you name a kid the starter before he's proven anything? Thats a weak point you make there sir!

And what does a DUI have to do with anything? Kids make mistakes just like adults do and they should have the opportunity to prove themselves as a person and student athlete. You're just digging for something to argue about sir!

Rawlins is a good QB who has a pretty good arm and is faster than Pat White (yes its true). You let Holgorsen work with this kid and in a couple years you're looking at one dynamic QB. There were alot of times Geno had alot of daylight in front of him but chose to throw it away or into double coverage. This kid has the ability to run with the ball.

The running backs will be better because the O-line will be coached better. Crook comes from a system where running the ball was a must. He'll develop these kids into very strong line. And he'll recruit his type of kids starting this year.

And who jumped ship other than Bedenbaugh, Gillespie and Spavital? The last time i check, we let Roberts and Dunlap go. Check your facts sir!

The only writing I see on the wall is that you failed at providing us with a good argument.

Shawn, I've never seen Ford take a snap, but based upon what I've heard, I sure had him all picked out to take over QB. That was before some great points about Rawlins. I'm sure this battle would be great to witness as a coach, in the gym, in the film room, and on the field.
          ~Thanks for being a positive fan~

T-bone, do us all a favor and stop following WVU Football. It should save you a bit of anxiety, having to follow such a horrible program.

Geez, some of you are downright depressing. Others have it right. Dawson is saying exactly what he should be saying - especially when you're graduating a likely first round NFL draft pick. He wants everyone competing at the top of their game. The comnpetition will sort it out. I'm sure all of these guys can play. Personally, my bigger issue is the offensive line. This offense needs a line that can protect, the QB needs that security. You give just about any QB time and he'll perform. Don't protect him, and it's a long year no matter who's back there.

  • jay

the last time we had a big ? for QB was Bednarik??? He got hurt and in turn here comes Pat White!!!! Go eeeerss!!!!!!

  • Jack

A good offense starts with the offensive line and Crook came from Stanford who had one of the best lines in college. There's some great talent coming in this year and with a coach that everyone says is an offensive genius. WVU will be just fine if the defense comes along.

WVU has 4 QBs vieing for the Starting Position: Paul Marrard, who was Geno's back-up in 2011 & 2012; Ford Childress who was red-shirted in 2012 as a fresman; Logan Moore who transfered to WVU after being the Starting QB at Fairmont State College and was red-shirted in 2012 due to NCAA rules on transfers; and Chavas Rawlins who is a new recruit coming in out of high school.

Mallard and Childress are both "Pocket Passers", and Moore and Rawlins are both "Dual Threat" QBs. Of the 4 QBs only two played both on both offense and defense (Moore & Rawlins). Rawlins also played on Special Teams as a Kick Returner. Moore was a successful as QB at Fairmont State College, and he and Rawlins are the faster two of the 4 QBs. Moore is the shortest of the 4 QBs. Athletically, Moore and Rawlins are the most mobile of the 4 QBs. According to Rawlins high school coach, Rawlins is like Geno in that he watches and studies a lot of video to improve his skills. The most accurate passer of the 4 is Moore.

The battle for QB is not going to be easy for the QBs or the coaches. However, sports writers and analyst fail to talk about Moore, and like in this article isn't even mentioned. This article suggest that the Starting QB position is only between Mallard and Childress, and suggest that Rawlins will be red-shirted. Everyone seems to forget that Moore has been at WVU as long as Childress has, and was a successful NCIA Division II Starting QB at Fairmont State College.

It would not surprise me to see Moore win the Starting QB position and Rawlins end-up being his back-up. For sports writers and analyst not to include Moore in the QB battle is a terrible over-sight and a terrible lack of judgement. Moore will use this to add to his determination to win the Starting position. If you listen to Holgorsen and Dawson, Moore is already doing things that are capturing their attention. Just because Moore is the only QB without a scholarship is no reason to facture him out of this equasion. Moore is definitely the sleeping dog here, for writers and analyst ignor his existence. The good news for him is that his coaches are not as blind as the sports writers and analyst, for they recognize and acknowledge his existence, his improvements, and his desire to be the Starting QB.

Logan Moore was not even a good QB in the WVIAC. His stats were not good

According to the Fairmont State website, Moore was named Freshman Offensive Player of the year by the WVAIC.
