Matt in answer to your question, with the current playoff system, both teams that make it to the sectional championship game advance to what is now called the "Regional co-championships". Even though Bridgeport defeated Lincoln in their sectional championship, Lincoln moved on to the regional game where they defeated Frankfort. With Bridgeport beating Berkeley Springs in the other half of that regional, both Bridgeport and Lincoln advance to the state tournament! They are playing each other in the first round just because that's the way the seeding of the teams fell.

matt,
I believe it is right before the regional co-championships are played, the coaches of those teams still in contention for a state berth vote on who they think should be the top seeds. Thus, the No. 8 seed was decided by a coaches' vote. I find it interesting that three teams in the Class AA state tourney field were AAA teams a year ago.

Sure wish the WVSSAC would have took that into consideration. They claim to classify them by strictly enrollment numbers with no school name out from it. All of the schools that came down to the over crowded AA except for Nicolas County, have won AAA titles. Fairmont Senior has been a regular at the state baseball tourney. The forgot about the little guys. Wish we had Four Classifications...

Yea WV needs a AAAA really bad!! The small schools in all divisions are getting the shaft. Ohio i believe just got AAAAAAA classification.
And all yea all Catholic schools should have to play up AAA-AAAA. It is insane that you can have a state tourny team that may only have a couple starters or one or none from the state your playing in and be in the smallest school division in the state. Just look at past state champions its common sense!!!!!!

Hey Guys, let us NOT forget that Bridgeport was not in the AAA division for a very long time, just barely making into that field and when they were AA the years prior to they were a school to be reckoned with!
Just over the previous few years, they finally able to, what some may disagree with me, compete with the BIG boys of AAA.
