Jefferson High School’s Garrett Grantham is prepping for his college basketball career at West Virginia Wesleyan. The all-time leading scorer for the Cougars announced his high school decision earlier this month.
Other schools in the mix included Navy, VMI and Shepherd University. But it was his visit to WV Wesleyan that set the Bobcats apart.
“West Virginia Wesleyan was in from the start,” Grantham said on In The Zone, a sports radio show in Martinsburg, W.Va. “They just contacted me more often, and then I just decided to go there.”
He finished his career at Jefferson scoring 1,511 total points, averaging 20.5 per game his senior season. He also tallied 112 assists to go along with 67 steals. Those numbers helped earn him first-team all state, as well collecting a lot of attention from potential colleges.
“It was real tough,” Grantham said of his decision. “I mean I had a lot of good coaches that I grew good relationships with, and I didn’t want to let anybody down.”
At Wesleyan, Grantham will get a full scholarship, majoring in business and sports management. He’ll report for camp coming up in August under new head basketball coach and former Mountaineer Patrick Beilein.
